Maxime Beauvais

Associate attorney, music and podcasts

I hear a contract the way a producer does: who is in the room, and who gets paid.

I came to law from a recording studio. I engineered sessions for years before law school, and it left me with a habit of asking who made what, and in what order, before anyone mentions money.

I handle music, publishing and podcast work at the firm. I work with writers, producers and hosts, explain what a clause does in the language of a session, and speak French and Haitian Creole with clients who prefer them.

Sample matters

The kind of work I do

  • Signed

Split sheet for a three-person song

Shares of 40, 40 and 20 agreed in writing the evening of the session.

    Sample

  • Agreed

Hosts' agreement for a two-person show

Ownership of the show name and feed, revenue shares and an exit plan, set out before the first sponsor.

    Sample

  • Cleared

    Sample for an independent release

A short license from the rights holder, in place before the track went to stores.

    Sample

These sample matters are invented to show the kind of work. Every matter is different, and an outcome in one says nothing about another.
